24-hour hotline:
Live operators answer calls 24/7 and provide information, referrals, and intake into emergency shelter. Operators are bilingual English/Spanish.
45-day emergency shelter:
Families are given a safe, secure, place of refuge and recovery in a confidential location, all meals, clothing, hygiene and health items are provided at no charge. The shelter is handicap accessible.
Transitional Housing:
Stella’s Friendship House, named after one of our founding members, is a 9-month program providing housing and supportive services to victims and their children who have made the transition from emergency shelter, but are not yet ready to be on their own.
On-Site School:
A licensed teacher is on-site at the emergency shelter Monday through Friday mornings to work with all of the children in residence. This not only keeps them up with their schoolwork, but helps to normalize their life.
Children’s Program:
Children at the emergency shelter have a full healing program including art therapy, peer support group, play therapy, Mommy & Me, field trips, and child care.
Individual Counseling:
Clients at the emergency shelter – victims and their children – receive individual counseling sessions during their stay.
Medical Advocacy:
All medical needs for clients at the emergency shelter are attended to as quickly as possible.
Warm line:
Used primarily for information and referrals, callers are connected during business hours.
Legal Advocacy:
Clients are assisted with many legal needs such as Temporary Restraining Orders, court accompaniment, U-Visa and VAWA applications, and other family issues.
CalWORKs Client Advocacy:
Clients are assisted with applications for CalWORKs benefits as well as program requirements.
Housing Advocacy:
Clients are assisted with finding both transitional and permanent housing.
Support Groups:
Clients benefit from professionally led domestic violence workshops/support groups.
Parenting Classes:
These enhancement groups are based on a curriculum developed by educators and therapists.
Life Skills Classes: These classes cover such areas as budgeting, nutrition, job preparedness, and health.
Educational Programs: Staff provides programs on domestic violence, teen dating violence, and building healthy relationships to local middle schools, high schools, youth organizations, and colleges.
Community Awareness: Speakers are available to address civic organizations, religious groups, and social clubs.
