MISSIONS AND GOALS

The mission of the Women’s and Children’s Crisis Shelter, Inc., is to serve victims of domestic violence by providing emergency and transitional shelter programs for victims who request protection and assistance, by providing culturally relevant and supportive intervention services, by coordinating with other agencies working to improve the wellness of families, and by providing information for the prevention of intimate partner violence.

                                                                                   
GOALS

Intervention:
Goals are developed that will assist each client in both breaking the cycle of violence and empowering them to build stable and self-sufficient lives for themselves and their families.  They include :

  • To provide each shelter client with a safe and secure environment;
  • To provide each client with the legal advocacies necessary to maintain her safety and security;
  • To provide each client with both the immediate and longer term medical attention she and her child(ren) require;
  • To place each shelter client, upon exit, in the safest most appropriate next step housing;
  • To educate each client about domestic violence in order to assist her in breaking the cycle of violence; and
  • To educate each client about good parenting to enable her to keep her family stable and secure.

Prevention:

  • To teach young women and men about building healthy relationships;
  • To educate young women and men about the signs of violent relationships;
  • To inform community and civic organizations about the issue of domestic violence; and
  • To bring appropriate referrals and resources to professionals who have battered women and girls as part of their clientele.
